CAVE3 has organized several external workshops on Harsh Environment Electronics. These meetings were held in Dearborn, MI (2003, 2004), Indianapolis, IN (2005, 2006, 2007) and Florida (2008). The workshops were co-sponsored by the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) and CAVE3, with the SMTA primarily handling the administrative and on-site organizational activities, and CAVE faculty handling the technical program organization. Dr. John Evans, Associate Director of CAVE3, has served as the General Chair of the Workshops. The meetings have been a great success, with an average attendance of 75 scientists per meeting. In addition, researchers from over 70 different companies, agencies, and universities have attended. The programs have consisted of technical presentations and panel discussions on topics of high interest, and the proceedings of the workshop were published on CD-Roms. A seventhth Workshop is scheduled for October 5-6, 2009, and will be held in San Diego, CA, at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center as a part of SMTA International.
